The row at Rajiv Gandhi Law University escalated after the varsity authorities suspended six students just for participating in the protest against poor food served at the hostel mess.
Following suspension, students staged a protest against the varsity administration here today. The six students were purportedly thrown out of the university. They spent the Friday night outside the university premises.
Suspended students termed the suspension as a shocker to them as only three days were left for the mid-semester exams to start.
Narrating the story, protesting students revealed that the university authorities had formed a committee to inquire into the matter on Friday. The committee suspended six students for raising their voice against unhygienic food being served at the university mess in the late night on Friday.
“Using our right we protested against the authorities and demanded that we should be given safe and hygienic food. Few students, who were leading the protest, asked all of us to pick up their empty plates and keep them knocking as part of the protest,” said a BA-LLB (Second year) student on the condition of anonymity.
“All the allegations being levelled by students are false. Students were suspended for their indiscipline. They were protesting against the suspension, which was done on the recommendation of the committee,” said Naresh Kumar, Registrar, National Law University.
However, the registrar added that the decision to revoke the suspension was being discussed, and a meeting of officials in this regard was being held.
Students took out a candle march inside the varsity campus. Protesters want immediate revocation of suspension order of six students. They are also demanding suspension of administrative Officer for his alleged derogatory remarks against students. Following the strong protest, a heavy police force has been deployed on the university campus. The authorities have also locked the main gate of the law university.
