Protest against liquor ban

Chandigarh: Employees of various hotels and restaurants staged a symbolic protest outside in Sector 43 against the decision of banning the sale of liquor within 500 meters of the national and the state highways on Thursday evening.

They also placed banners outside their hotels, highlighting the job loss due to the decision. They said instead of banning the sale of liquor, there was a need for strict implementation of the traffic rules. The order has been a big blow to the hospitality industry as 88 hotels, situated on the National Highway 21 and the Madhya Marg in the city have been affected. More than 5,000 employees faced retrenchment after the decision. — TNS
