Chandigarh, November 22

Still groping in the dark in the 22-year-old’s gang rape case, a desperate Chandigarh Police have now announced an out-of-turn promotion for any police personnel who arrests the accused. The police have already announced a reward if Rs 1 lakh for anyone who provides information about the accused leading to their arrest.

The police have released posters carrying photos of the three accused, which are being circulated. The posters are being pasted across the city and the surrounding areas and are also being used by the police to show them around in their area. The 22-year-old Dehradun girl was gangraped by three persons on Friday night in the forest area in Sector 53.

Confirming the development, Senior Superintendent of Police Jagdale Nilambari Vijay said, “A reward of Rs 1 lakh for correct information and an out-of-turn promotion will be considered for any policeman who arrests the accused.”

She said they were working on multiple angles for the past few days.

However, the three accused whose photographs are available with the Chnadigarh police are still eluding them, she said.

The police are particularly looking for new, unregistered auto-rickshaws sold in Chandigarh and Mohali.

It is suspected from the partial view of the registration plate that the vehicle used in the crime had a temporary registration plate.
