Chandigarh, October 20

The Second Innings Association has written to the Adviser-cum-Chief Vigilance Officer, seeking an audit of the Forest Department records.

In the complaint, the senior citizen’s association stated that from the data made available on the official website, under the Greening Chandigarh action plan, 2,50,000 saplings are planted and distributed for free every year and 3,00,000 seeds are sown, along with 1,50,000 stem cuttings every year.

“The fact that such a gigantic plantation drive is undertaken every year, the green cover of Chandigarh is static since 2017 or may be data has not been collected or compiled after that. As per the data made available and as per horticulturists, there is hardly 3 per cent to 30 per cent survival of all activities of forestation done in the UT,” said RK Garg, president of the association.
