Principal, 4 school heads in Chandigarh pay for poor school results

CHANDIGARH: The UT Education Department on Wednesday suspended a Principal and four heads of government schools for poor Class X results. Besides, those in charge of three schools were transferred.

The UT Education Department on Wednesday suspended a Principal and four heads of government schools for poor Class X results. Besides, those in charge of three schools were transferred.

The Director, School Education, Rubinderjit Singh Brar, told Chandigarh Tribune, “These schools had a poor pass percentage of less than 20 in Class X. Thus, the Principal and the heads have been suspended.” The department had earlier served notice on 28 school heads.

According to the department, those who have been suspended are Neena, Principal, Government Senior Secondary Model School, Ram Darbar, and school heads — Sangeeta Bajaj, Government High School, Ram Darbar, Nirmal Singh, Government High School, Sector 38-B, Satpal, Government High School, Sector 11, and Ravinder, Government Model High School, Dhanas.

Veena, incharge of Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 19, was transferred to Dhanas, while Inderjeet, incharge of Government High School, Sector 22, was transferred to Mauli Jagran and Anuradha, incharge of Government Model High School, Sector 25, was shifted to Khuda Jasu.

“They have been asked to give a good performance now and we are finding replacements for them.

They had been posted at the same schools for the past many years,” said an official. Earlier, the department had suspended four teachers and issued show-cause notices to 56 others for poor Class X results this year.  

A total of 10,850 students had appeared for the Class X exams, of whom 5,567 students, 51.49 per cent of the total, could not pass. In 2018, the pass percentage was 48.51, whereas in 2017, it was 94.7.
