President in Mohali today

President Ram Nath Kovind will be in the town on Sunday to confer degrees on 153 students of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Sector 81 here.

Sources said the President was expected to arrive by a chopper that would land at the technical airport area around 10.30 am. He will then head for the IISER for the convocation ceremony scheduled at 11 am.

SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said all security arrangement in view of the President’s visit were in place. 

“Over 800 cops, including Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been deployed in the town,”  he said. 

After attending the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research event, the President will leave for Shimla to attend a cultural programme and banquet hosted by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. 

During his four-day visit to the hill state, the President will stay at The Retreat in Mashobra near Shimla. —TNS
