Preeti, Suman confirm city’s win

CHANDIGARH:Preeti and Suman scored two goals each as Hockey Chandigarh dubbed Hockey Madhya Pradesh 6-0 in the ongoing 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (A Division), in Hissar, today.

Preeti and Suman scored two goals each as Hockey Chandigarh dubbed Hockey Madhya Pradesh 6-0 in the ongoing 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (A Division), in Hissar, today.  

Preeti netted the first goal in the fifth minute, followed by another in the 29th minute. While Suman extended the lead to 4-0 after a goal each in the 39th minute and 54th minute. Aarti netted the fifth in the 55th minute, while Noni netted the last goal in the 59th minute to pull off a 6-0 victory.

Hockey Punjab also moved ahead in the championship by defeating Hockey Bihar 5-0. Skipper Karmanpreet Kaur netted four goals (34th , 37th,  51st, 56th) in the win. Hockey Jharkhand meanwhile put up a stellar performance beating Hockey Coorg 25-0. Rajni Kerketta's seven (6th , 10th, 26th, 28th, 34th, 38th, 58th), Deepika Soreng's five (11th, 12th , 22nd, 24th, 25th) and Pramodni Lakra's four goals (47th, 52nd, 53rd, 59th) highlighted Hockey Jharkhand's dominating display where they managed to score 10 goals in the second quarter. 

Hockey Him handed Assam Hockey their second defeat by beating them 4-0. Hockey Him opened up a three-goal lead in the first nine minutes of the game via Manisha (6th), Tannu (7th) and Sejal (9th). The score line remained as it is until last quarter when Hockey Him added one more to their name through Tamanna Yadav in the 46th minute as the game ended 4-0 in their favour.

Riding on three goals scored in the 3rd and 4th quarter Hockey Odisha beat Hockey Karnataka 3-0. None of the teams could find the back of the net in the first two quarters. Just three minutes into the third, Sumi Mundari scored Hockey Odisha's first. The lead was doubled at the stroke of the 3rd quarter via Rasmi Kishan. Sumi Mundari scored her second and team's third in the 55th minute as Hockey Odisha sealed the 3-0 win.

In a match where goals came thick and fast, Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Bihar 22-0. The bulk of the scoring was done by Deepika who scored seven goals (8th, 14th, 30th, 31st, 33rd, 47th, 50th) and Monu (20th, 21st, 24th, 37th, 47th) as Hockey Haryana didn't give any respite to Hockey Bihar. Hockey Bhopal beat Assam Hockey 2-0. —TNS
