Chandigarh, September 14

Postponed after much drama, the inter-school skating championship will be now held next month.

“We have not decided on the exact date, but the championship will be now organised in the mid of October,” said the UT Education Department spokesperson.

The championship, which was earlier scheduled to commence at the Sector 10 skating rink on August 24, was postponed after a group of parents had raised concern over the choice of the venue and wanted it to be shifted to a private school in Sector 7.

The other faction, though, remained adamant that the event be held at the Sector 10 rink. Following the tussle between the two groups, the Administration had decided to postpone the tournament.

“We are working on conducting the championship at a neutral venue, if possible. However, we will consider all the rules and regulations before finalising the venue,” the spokesperson added.

The notification for organising the skating championship, though, has not come out so far. “We hope the championship is organised at a neutral venue,” said one of the parents.

“The issue over the selection of venue has already wasted a month of our wards and that too before the mid-semester examination. The national championship is scheduled to be held in November, and our wards will have to restart their practise after the exam break,” said one of the parents.
