Poor weather affects flight operations

Flight operations at the Chandigarh international airport continued to be disrupted as two flights were cancelled and 10 delayed on Monday. The SpiceJet flight (SG 2834) to Delhi, which arrives at the airport at 8.05 am, was grounded due to fog at Chandigarh. Another Srinagar-Chandigarh-Delhi SpiceJet was cancelled due to air traffic control (ATC) restrictions in Srinagar and runway closure.

IndiGo’s Delhi bound flight (6E 545/455), which arrives at the airport at 7.30 am, was delayed by five hours while Alliance Air’s Delhi flight (9I 832), which had temporarily been suspended due to winter,

 was late by 6 hours and 47 minutes.

Flight operations were mainly affected between Delhi and Chandigarh. Sources said that several flights were delayed at the Delhi airport due to fog and air traffic congestion.

 The delay affected all domestic flight carriers including four flights of Jet Airways, two of IndiGo, one of Vistara, one of SpiceJet and two Air India flights.

Meanwhile, airport officials announced the resumption of Air India’s Mumbai-Chandigarh-Pune flight (AI 814/642) with effect from February. The flight, which was withdrawn due to weather conditions, would operate as per its old schedule till February 9. It will arrive at the airport at 3.05 pm and depart at 3.35 pm.

Rail traffic hit too 

Dense fog hit the rail traffic on Monday. Passengers travelling  in the Delhi- Kalka- Shatabdi were at the receiving end as it was delayed by nearly five hours.

The train was scheduled to arrive at Chandigarh at 11.05 am but it reached the railway station at 3.55 pm, approximately after a delay of over four hours and 50 minutes.

Even the Kalka Shatabdi, which leaves for Delhi during the afternoon, was delayed by half an hour.

the Howrah-Kalka Superfast Express was delayed by five hours and 32 minutes while the Barmer-Kalka  Express was late by four hours and 35 minutes.

The Ajmer- Chandigarh train was late by two hours and 45 minutes. the Saharsa-Amritsar Express was late by four hours and 18 minutes.

The Lucknow-Chandigarh Express was late by four hours and 41 minutes while the Panipat-Chandigarh train was late by fours hours and three minutes.
