Chandigarh, January 6

Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the Chandigarh Golf Club for not maintaining hygienic conditions as prescribed in the rules.

Sources said the Deputy Commissioner imposed the fine after a team of the Health Department submitted a report regarding an inspection conducted by it. After hearing the version of the Chandigarh Golf Club management, the Deputy Commissioner found that there were certain shortcomings for which a penalty needed to be imposed.

He also imposed similar fines on seven restaurants where teams of health officers had found shortcomings in the kitchen in raids conducted during the past one month. The sources said a health team had inspected the Golf Club under the Food Safety and Standards Act in July 2018

The raids   on eateries were conducted  after some residents  complained to the Health Department, asking it to the check the hygiene of the food being cooked at clubs,   hotels  and restaurants. Following this, a team of food officers was constituted and  a raid was conducted at the Golf Club. After finding the condition of the kitchen, where food was being cooked, unhygienic,   the department   issued a challan.

BS   Gill,  president of the  Golf Club, said the  quality  of food was   found   satisfactory,  but certain   shortcomings   were pointed out by the  food officers, which we  have taken care of. The  team found no cover  on the   dustbin in the  kitchen and  the fly mesh was  also  not  found at the  proper  place.
