Chandigarh, April 18

A day after the owner of Gopal Sweets, Sharanjeet Singh, was allegedly robbed of Rs 6.25 lakh by three unknown youths, the police are trying to find clues from the CCTV footage. The police visited the spot and several areas in Sector 8 to try and ascertain the route taken by the accused and to try and identify them.

Around 9.20 pm on Tuesday, three Activa-borne miscreants sped away after snatching a bag containing Rs 6.25 lakh from the owner of Gopal Sweets. This is the second such incident reported by him. In 2017, a bag containing Rs 4.85 lakh was snatched from him in Sector 11.

The miscreants targeted the businessman on the rear side of Gopal Sweets in Sector 8. They sprayed chilli powder in his eyes and snatched the bag containing the sales collection. Police teams reached the spot in the morning and questioned the staff. SSP Nilambari Jagdale said, “The teams visited houses and shops along the route used by the accused to escape and have viewed the CCTV footage”. The accused are said to be in their mid-twenties and could be the same who were involved in a similar incident in January 2017 involving the same victim. They escaped towards the Sector 8 gurdwara and then towards Sector 7. A case has been registered at the Sector 3 police station.
