Panchkula, September 21

In the suicide case of a 14-year-old daughter of an Army Colonel, the Pinjore police have failed to proceed further in the probe.

According to sources, no one, including the victim Riya’s mother, brother or friends, had come forward to record a statement with the police, which could verify the charge that she was under any pressure of her father, as claimed in the suicide note recovered from the spot.

It is believed that as her father Col Sachit Mahindro and mother had been living separately for the past three years, the girl was under mental stress, which could also have prompted her to take the extreme step.

Pinjore SHO Varinder Sharma said although they had booked the girl’s father for abetment to suicide, they were yet to find any concrete evidence to proceed in the case. He said they were trying to unlock the mobile phone of the girl, which might throw some light on the case.

The victim, in her suicide note, had blamed her father for abetting her suicide, as he suspected that she was having an affair. She had alleged in the suicide note that her father used to make repeated accusations against her that she was having physical relationship with a boy.
