Poets, writers pay tributes to Guru Nanak

An embodiment of truth, wisdom, spiritual mysticism the great Guru Nanak Dev preached the doctrine of ideal living to the world at large.

Some prominent poets and writers attempted to pay tributes to the godly incarnated  visionary saint philosopher Guru Nanak Dev through their poetry written with reflecting references to Guru’s baani   as a mark of  their reverence. The writings of legendary poets like Mohan Singh, Dr Haribhajan  Singh, Harinder Singh Mehboob,  SS Misha, Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Surjit Patar, written on or about the serenity of Gurbani came in for discussion at a special programme organised by Punjab Arts Council auditorium here today. Dr Tejwant Singh inaugurated the programme.

The highlight was the rendition of poetry by well known classical  Sufi singers and anchored by none other than the prolific poet Surjit Patar, chairman Punjab Arts Council.

Well known composer and Sufi maestro Ustad Neelay Khan presented his compositions like  ‘ Nirmal raat vasakh thi tareyan  naal bhari’, regarding birth of Guru Nanak. Young melodious vocalist Manraj Patar rendered a geet ‘Takkya mein Babar de darbar ikk mastana jogi’ to win applause. Acclaimed Sufi singer Dev Dildar enraptured audience with a marathon composition ‘Ikk subhah saar aaye nanak nadi ton bahar’ weaved in three ragas Bhairav, Ahir bhairav and Bairagi bhairav. GS Peter too doled out Shiv Batalvi’s nazam ‘Hunne sargi di hawa ne panchhiyan da bol peeta hai’. Besides, poet Deepak Sharma Chanarthal, Jaideep Singh Tuli, Anajali Banga and students read out poems.
