PNB, IAF in final

CHANDIGARH:Punjab National Bank (PNB) registered a 2-0 win over Punjab Police to set up the title clash with Indian Air Force (IAF) in the 47th SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament (A Grade) here on Friday.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) registered a 2-0 win over Punjab Police to set up the title clash with Indian Air Force (IAF) in the 47th SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament (A Grade) here on Friday. 

Playing at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, PNB took the lead through a penalty corner conversion by Sanjay in the 24th minute. N Jen Jen Singh then doubled the lead for the side in 44th minute to seal a 2-0 win.

IAF, on the other hand, beat Punjab & Sind Bank 10-9 on penalties after the two sides were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. 

Ajit Pandit converted a penalty corner in the 16th minute to put IAF 1-0 ahead, but Jaskaran Singh scored four minutes ahead of the interval to help the bankers draw level. The final will be played at 3pm on Saturday.  

Basketball meet from October 15

Chandigarh: Vivek High School will host the 6th Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball tournament from October 15. The four-day-long event will be held at the Sector 42 Sports Complex and 19 different schools will participate in it. The event will be held in U-12, U-14 and U-16 age-groups in both boys’ and girls’ categories, the organisers said here on Friday. TNS
