PMAY applicants throng CHB office

A large numbers of applicants of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna - Housing for All (Urban) have been thronging the office of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) to get information regarding status of their applications.

While the Estate Office scrutiny has found only 450 eligible persons for the yojna, the majority of the applicants have been told to contact banks to avail loan for the houses.

While the land for the housing scheme is yet to be decided, the CHB has sent applications of over 40,000 persons to various banks for giving loan for the construction or expansion of the houses. The board has conducted a demand survey under the scheme for the EWS, LIG, MIG-I and MIG-II categories, living in urban areas of Chandigarh.

Under the demand survey, 1,27,977 applications were received under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) verticals of the PMAY and forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, for verification of applicants as per the eligibility criteria under the scheme. After checking the applications, 34,085 applications were found incomplete in one or more aspect and the same are not being considered.

Of the balance 93,892 applications, 9,723 applicants have applied under the AHP. The Estate Office, Chandigarh, has scrutinised the application on the basis of Aadhaar card, name in the voter list, actually residing on the address specified in the application, eliminating duplicate applications, the criterion of one house per family, owning a house, linkage with the Estate Office data, besides others.

Sources said with a less number of the eligible applicants, there was a little possibility for the construction of the new flats under the scheme.

However, Maninder Singh Bains, chairman of the CHB, said the number of the eligible persons were likely to be increased as many have filed appeal against the rejection.

He said the Chandigarh Housing Board would provide houses to all eligible persons and the board had already sought land for the construction of the houses from the Administration.
