Play throws light on struggles of an independent woman

A thought-provoking play ‘Matrimonial’, was staged during the 6th Norah Richards National Theatre Festival at Kala Bhawan in Punjabi University.

Written by Mahinder Risham and directed by Sangeeta Gupta, the play is based on the bold character of a girl Ananta, who doesn’t want to conform to the traditional system of marriage. 

She is dejected over the difficulties faced by her mother that is why she wants to live life on her own terms. She gives a matrimonial advertisement with a condition that those who do not have a sister should not contact her. 

Later, she finds a suitable man and they started talking on the phone. 

The telephonic conversation continues for major part of the play.

The play depicts that a girl can live according to her choice. BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the chief guest at the occasion. Prominent theatre and film actors present at the event, included Rana Jang Bahadur and Jass Grewal.
