New Delhi, February 19

Resident doctors of AIIMS, Delhi, have requested the PGI to extend the last date of applying for the posts of assistant professors to the first week of March.

“Doing so will prevent otherwise-eligible senior residents of AIIMS from being left out as they will be completing their residency by the end of February,” AIIMS RDA president Dr Amarinder Singh Malhi told The Tribune. The RDA-AIIMS had written to the PGI Director in this regard twice, but the administration has reportedly refused saying that they could at least have applied for the posts as per the procedure.

Dr Amarinder said a major chunk of senior residents (non-academic) from the AIIMS have been rendered ineligible for the posts as their residency tenure will end in February. Another problem with the application process was offline submission of challans for recruitments, unlike other premier institutes, he pointed out.

The PGI had called for the applications for 134 posts at assistant professor level in various departments. January 9 was the last date for accepting applications from eligible senior residents. As per the authorities, the PGI is supposed to complete the interviews before the model code of conduct comes into force for the Lok Sabha election.
