A 26-year-old PGI employee reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a country-made pistol at his house in Dadu Majra Colony on the intervening night of August 13 and 14. The police said no suicide note was found from the spot.

Sources said the victim had been identified as Ankit, a Class IV employee at the PGI. He was staying on rent in the house.

The police said the victim’s landlord heard a gunshot after which he rushed to the room and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. The police were informed and the victim rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The victim shot himself with a .315 bore pistol. The police have seized the unlicensed pistol from the spot. They have also recovered the bullet from the spot.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated by the police at the Maloya police station.
