The body of the 24-year old postgraduate medical student from Tamil Nadu, who allegedly committed suicide in Chandigarh two days ago, was cremated near his residence here today.

The body of Dr Krishna Prasath R was brought by flight from Delhi to Madurai and then brought here by a car and taken to his house. His school and college mates, representatives of political parties and others paid their homage.

Dr Krishna, who was doing his PG course at the PGI in Chandigarh, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room. He was a junior resident in the Department of Radio Diagnosis and Imaging, PGI, and hailed from Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami had condoled his death and also announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to his family. — PTI
