PGI docs bring laurels

The recently concluded annual conference of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (DERMACON 2019) held at Bengaluru saw the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology, PGI, Chandigarh, headed by Prof Sanjeev Handa, bag several awards.

Dr Dipankar De, Additional Professor of the department, was awarded the prestigious Prof LK Bhutani Award for achievement for teaching and research, particularly in acne and autoimmune blistering diseases (pemphigus).

Dr Dipankar was also designated to be the convener of the IADVL Academy that takes care of the academic and research activities of the association and professional development of its members. He will assume formal responsibility from 2020.

Dr Krishna Jha and Dr Amit Kumar were the runners-up in the IADVL-GSK national quiz programme. A total of 17 different teams from various parts of the country were selected after state-level preliminary quiz. In the final, after the preliminary round, four teams were selected. The PGI team was the first runner-up in the closely contested final rounds.

A collaborative research led by Dr Samir Malhotra of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology for patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis won the Bishnupriya Devi Award for best original article published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology in year 2018. Three investigators from the department - Prof Sunil Dogra, Dr Tarun Narang and Dr Vinay K - were associated with the study.

Dr Muhammed Razmi T, former senior resident of the department, was awarded the first IADVL-Abbott Researcher Award for research by a young dermatologist below 35 years of age.
