PGI adds another feather to its cap

CHANDIGARH: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has been ranked second for cleanliness in category A of Central Government institutions.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has been ranked second for cleanliness in category A of Central Government institutions.

JP Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, handed over a citation and an award of Rs 1.5 crore to the PGIMER.

On April 16, The Tribune had reported that the hospital had received Rs 1.5 crore under the Kayakalp scheme.

Along with Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER, Amitabh Avasthi, Deputy Director, and Dr AK Gupta, Medical Superintendent, received the award.

Similarly, the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, was also awarded for maintaining cleanliness. The award was handed over to Dr G Dewan, Director, Health Services.

The award’s criteria was based on internal, external and peer assessment of hospital upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, support services, waste management, infection control, hygiene promotion and feedback mechanism from public on cleanliness.

There were two categories of hospital assessed based on infrastructure, patient load, bed strength, support structure, etc.

The PGI, Chandigarh, was under Category A. Other hospitals were AIIMS, Dr RML Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, LHMC and Associate Hospitals, all from New Delhi, JIPMER, Puducherry, RIMS, Imphal, Manipur, and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha.

In 2016-17, the PGI, Chandigarh, stood third and in 2015-16, it was awarded the first prize.
