Periphery control law to remain in force in 13 villages merged with MC

Making it clear that there will be no change in the periphery control law applicable to the 13 villages that came under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation recently, the UT Administration has decided to issue a fresh notification in this regard.

Sources said the decision was taken during a high-level meeting held today. Officials of the MC and the UT Administration took part in the meeting.

The UT Administration had recently merged the 13 villages falling under its jurisdiction with the MC. The villages included Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Raipur Kalan, Makhan Majra, Daria, Mauli Jagran, Kishangarh, Kaimbwala, Khuda Ali Sher, Khuda Jassu, Khuda Lahora, Sarangpur and Dhanas. The entire area of the revenue estate of these villages, including the area under the abadi deh, has now come under the MC.

The Punjab New Periphery Control Act, 1952, was implemented in the villages before these were brought under the jurisdiction of the MC. However, there was uncertainty over the status of the periphery law ever since the decision was taken to include these villages in the MC. With the UT decision today, no illegal construction or commercial activity will be allowed in these villages.
