Mohali, October 23

Commuting on the Mohali-Landran road continues to be a nightmare but the PWD authorities seem to be looking the other way.

The four-kilometre stretch is full of potholes, resulting in mishaps and damage to vehicles. “Commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, are the most vulnerable on this road. They often fall down from their vehicles. The problem worsens in the rainy season,” said Karam Singh, a resident of Landran and daily commuter.

Area resident Karan Singh shared a similar plight. “A number of ambulances pass through the area daily. Just imagine the plight of patients. Precious time is lost in commuting due to potholes,” said Karan Singh.

In addition to it, traffic jams can be witnessed on the stretch due to its pathetic condition. Earlier, Punjab Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu had got the potholes filled with soil and gravel. “The material washed away in the rainy season,” said area residents.

“We are unable to understand why the authorities are not solving the problem,” said Ajit Singh, an area resident.

The repair of the road is the responsibility of the PWD, which had claimed to repair it after the monsoon. “Now, winter is about to set in and officials are still not bothered about the problem,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Mohali.
