To inculcate a sense of fire safety among city residents during the ongoing National Fire Service Week (April 14-20), the Fire Department started a safety awareness campaign here on Sunday.

Vehicles of the local fire brigade were taken around the town to create awareness regarding fire safety measures among residents on the occasion of Fire Service Day.

A two-minute silence was also observed in the memory of all those firemen who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Three fire engines and a water bowser passed through various areas of the city and organised mock drills at various places to create awareness about fire safety.

Manjit Singh, Fire Officer, Dera Bassi, said such drives would continue in the constituency till April 20 and they would create awareness about fire safety by visiting various places in the city.

The fire officer said people should learn how to use fire extinguishers in an emergency. Building owners should take precautionary measures and ensure fire-safety arrangements to avoid any fire tragedy in future.
