A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a bike in Sector 14 here while he and his friend were returning home to Dhakoli after purchasing vegetables. The victim has been identified as Shiv Kumar, who used to work at a printing press in the Industrial Area, Phase 1.

The complainant, Mahendra, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and lives in a rented accommodation in Dhakoli, told the police that the incident occurred on November 16 around 10.50 pm when they were returning home after purchasing vegetables in Sector 14.

“When we reached near BEL Colony, a biker hit us and we fell on the ground. We both lost consciousness. After regaining consciousness, I found myself at the Civil Hospital in Sector 6. I was told that a PCR van had taken me to the hospital. Both of us were referred to the PGI later,” he said.

“One of my family members admitted us to the GMCH in Sector 32, Chandigarh. I was discharged around 7 am on November 17. I got to know that my friend Shiv Kumar had lost the battle for life,” he added.

A case has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way, 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.
