Is the entire episode of spat between Punjab singers Rami Randhawa and Elly Mangat a cheap publicity stunt, aimed at self-promotion and increasing viewership of their songs and posts on the social media? This is the new angle being probed by the Mohali police in the case after a tip-off.

A senior police official said they had got a tip-off that the entire episode was “pre-planned and designed” by both singers.

“We are probing this angle. Both suspects were also quizzed in this regard, but they didn’t concede yet,” said the official. “If there was some animosity, why didn’t they threaten each other through personal messages?” said the official.

Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said the police were investigating some other angles too.

“We have also booked eight persons, who created a ruckus in support of the singers here,” said Chahal.

Mangat’s ‘connections’ with gangsters to be probed
The police are also probing Mangat’s alleged connections with some gangsters. The police claimed that they got information about the singer’s alleged connections with some gangsters here. “Our investigations in this direction are on. We will only be able to comment on it after some outcome,” said the police.

Mangat in two-day police remand
A local court has remanded Mangat in two-day police custody.

Section 295 added to case
On Thursday, the police added Section 295 (hurting religious sentiments) of the IPC to the FIR against Elly Mangat, who had used objectionable language against the religious symbol being adorned by Rami Randhawa. The SSP said apart from Sections 294, 504 and 506 of the IPC, they had added the new section to the case against Mangat.
