A student of a local school has scored 100 percentile in the JEE Main, results of which were declared today.

Jayesh Singla (18), a Class XII student of Apollo Public School here, is among 15 students who have topped the country. As many as 8.74 lakh students appeared for the exam. Jayesh, who completed Class X from Yadavindra Public School here, is a resident of SST Nagar. His mother Dr Monika Gupta is a gynaecologist and father a paediatrician.

Jayesh’s mother Dr Monika Gupta said, “We are elated as he has scored good in the JEE Main. He has always wanted to become an engineer and we have been supporting him. He scored 97.4 per cent in the ICSE board in Class X. He has been performing well in studies since the beginning. He likes mathematics the most.” Jayesh’s father Dr Ajay Singla said his son topping the country came as a surprise. “Jayesh is a hard working boy. We were hoping he will score well but did not expect him to top the exam.”

The proud father said, “Jayesh spends about 8-9 hours on studies. He likes watching cricket and movies and plays badminton. He is not Internet savvy.” Dr Ajay said Jayesh took coaching from a private institute for all subjects, including physics, mathematics and chemistry. “The most important thing before exams he does is to relax. We also support the idea that one should relax a day before the exam. He says we should not overburden ourselves on the last day, which has helped him a lot.”
