Patiala, February 13

With sever shrinking parking spaces at the Government Rajindra Hospital, the Patiala Health Foundation has taken up the task of installing tiles at various spots and turning them into parking lots.

The Patiala Health Foundation would be spending around Rs 15 lakh on the project and the parking spaces would come up near the hospital’s guest house.

Rs 2.5 crore guest house, sanctioned by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has witnessed construction activity at snail’s pace. As a result the Patiala Health Foundation has decided to take over the construction work.

The foundation not only got a biomedical waste room constructed near the guest house but has been installing tiles to create parking space for patient’s attendants.

Patiala Health Foundation President Dr BS Sohal said the decision was taken keeping in mind the heavy footfall. “Over 2,000 patients are coming to the hospital on daily basis and more than half of them come from far off places. Therefore, there was an urgent need to have more parking spaces as people used to park their vehicles on roadside leading to traffic bottlenecks,” he added.

Government Rajindra Hospital Superintendent Dr BS Brar said, “Often heated arguments took place between patients’ kin and the security guards over parking. Therefore, we urged the Patiala Health Foundation to assist us in addressing the matter.” “Both the guest house and parking lots will be thrown open to public at the earliest,” added Dr Brar.
