Parking woes continue to test nerves of Mohali residents on a daily basis. Haphazard parked vehicles and heavy rush of vehicles at markets has become a 

common thing.

Markets located in Phase-3B 2, Phase 5, Phase 7 and Phase 11 were often witness jams as shoppers and youngsters throng major hubs. As a result, people who have to visit market for their daily chores suffer. Though some of the markets have ample parking space but problems arises due to wrongly parked vehicles. 

“It seems there is no system in place in Mohali. The Municipal Corporation (MC) as well as the police should be more proactive in regulating traffic at parking lots,” said JP Singh, president, Phase-3B2 Market Association.

He said, “The MC should earmark parking lots for two-wheelers and four-wheelers so that people know where to park their vehicles. The traffic police should enforce rules strictly.” 

Another resident, Sunny Sharma, said, “There have been numerous instances when people park their cars behind others’ vehicles. This often leads to heated arguments.” 

“This is totally irresponsible on their part and residents need to be sensitised on parking rules,” he said. 

“With a vehicle blocking access path, other drivers are forced to forced to drive through restricted spaces. In this process one may hit another vehicle,” said Gurinder Singh, a resident of Phase 5. 

A resident said there was a system of paid parking earlier in these markets due to which there was some parking order prevailed. However, paid parking was withdrawn by the MC under the public pressure, he said.
