Mohali, October 18

Bhai Malkit Singh, Head Granthi, Sri Akal Takht, said Guru Nanak Dev was against all artificially created divisions and discrimination.

He was speaking during a seminar organised to mark the 550th Parkash Purb at Rayat Bahra University here today.

He said: “The Guru preached that the caste of a person is based on what he does and his idea of a caste-free society transpired in his concepts of ‘Sangat’ and ‘Pangat’.”

He said Guru Nanak Dev spread the message of universal brotherhood.

Dr Manmohan Singh, a scholar, said the Guru preached “kirat karo, wand chako” (Do some work to earn bread and share your earning among the needy). — TNS
