A three-member committee has started probe into incidents of violence at Panjab University in September and October. 

Officials said the panel had collected video recordings and social media footage. They will question students soon. 

The committee comprises Prof SS Chahal, former Vice-Chancellor, Maharana Partap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajsathan; Amarjit Singh Gill, former DGP, Rajsathan; and Jagjit Singh Puri, a retired IAS officer.

University officials said they were not aware about the proceedings. Sources said the panel would soon call those involved in the incidents. As per information, the video footage from the entry gates of the university has been submitted to the committee members. 

Manjit Singh Nijjar, Registrar at Punjabi University, said, “The committee members have started the probe. They had demanded evidence from us, which has been provided to them.”

Work for connecting girls’ hostels starts

The university has started the work for interconnecting girls’ hostels. Officials from the engineering branch of the university visited the girls’ hostels to prepare an estimate for the installation of gates. Registrar Manjit Singh Nijjar said, “The engineering department was directed to take action in this regard and necessary steps are being taken.”
