P’kula to soon have electric vehicle charging stations

PANCHKULA:Taking a step forward to attain the green city tag, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has decided to install charging stations for electric vehicles in Sector 8, 9 and 10 in the next 15-20 days.

Taking a step forward to attain the green city tag, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has decided to install charging stations for electric vehicles in Sector 8, 9 and 10 in the next 15-20 days. 

MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal said, “Electric vehicle charging stations will come up in the next 2-3 weeks and will be completely free during initial days. There are around 350 e-vehicles in the tricity.” 

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to accelerate push towards the green city certification for Panchkula,” he said.

“We have taken many steps to achieve this feat. These include e-carts for waste collection, 50 e-bikes for supervisors, green building of the Municipal Corporation in Sector 3, eight rainwater harvesting structures (40 will come up later), horticulture wing or nursery, the MC Commissioner said. “More than 4.77 lakh km has been covered using bicycle sharing service saving more than 11 lakh kg carbon emission,” Jogpal said. 


No paid parking in Sector 8, 9 and 10: Jogpal

MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal refuted a report that they were planning to introduce paid parking in three markets of the city – Sector 8, 9 and 10 – where it had rolled out free regularised market to make Panchkula a smart city. As many as 15 employees have been deputed by the corporation for the purpose and parking slips are issued to two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
