Panchkula, December 25

With a view to making the city slum-free, the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) will remove four big slum colonies located in various parts of the city and construct 9,000 flats for the slum dwellers in Sector 20 and 28.

The project has been approved by the HSVP Administrator and work on it will start within six months. Surveys in this regard were held for the past few years. The HSVP conducted surveys in Indira Colony, Rajeev Colony and Kharag Mangoli. However, a survey was not conducted in Gandhi Colony. Now, Gandhi Colony has also been included in the project and a survey will be conducted in the area.

The HSVP had included those persons in the survey who had been living in these colonies since 2009.

The HSVP had won a case regarding possession of prime land in Sector 20. The land, which is adjacent to Dhakoli in Punjab, will be developed. A 332-acre area had been selected in Sector 20 to construct Ashiana flats. Earlier, plots were to be carved out, but now Ashiana flats will be constructed on 18 acres in Sector 28.

The HSVP had earlier also conducted a survey of slums in the city and it was to construct Ashiana flats in Sector 12-A, Rajeev Colony and Indira Colony. Now, the flats will not be constructed in the middle of the city. The new project will not only clear slum areas of the city, but also provide prime land to the HSVP, which will fetch it crores of rupees through an auction of plots to be carved out on the slum land.

After shifting Rajeev Colony and Indira Colony, the HSVP will get 45-acre prime land. Of this, 22 acres will be merged with the Industrial Area, while plots will be carved out on 19 acres at Gandhi Colony where the HSVP will plan a project. The HSVP will also get 75 acres by shifting the Kharag Mangoli slum, where a shopping complex, a mall site and an inter-state bus terminal will be set up.

CHSVP to construct 9,000 flats for slum dwellers in Sec 20, 28 elected and work on constructing the flats would start within six months. He said 9,000 flats would be constructed in the two sectors.
