Over 63,000 students get uniforms in dist

PATIALA:The district administration has provided uniforms to 63,459 students studying in government schools under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan during 2017-18.

The district administration has provided uniforms to 63,459 students studying in government schools under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan during 2017-18. 

The administration has spent Rs 2.53 crore on providing the uniforms to 31,347 girls, 17,327 boys belonging to the Scheduled Castes, and 14,785 children of BPL families.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kumar Amit today said the administration was also providing education to 126 children under the Right to Education Act. 

He said of the total students, 51 come in the age-group of 6 to 7 years while 75 were in the age-group of 7 to 14 years. The DC said the boys had got shirts, trousers, sweaters and socks while the girls received suits, sweaters and socks.

The DC added that 4,935 students with special needs were studying in government schools and 639 were getting home-based education under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
