More than 1,400 students from non-engineering streams were awarded degrees at the 12th annual convocation of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, here today.
Presiding over the convocation, Sandeep Kulkarni, CEO, ACG Pampac Machines Pvt Ltd, said educational institutions did not only carry the responsibility of transforming young talent into fine professionals but also had a wider role to play to carve them into responsible citizens, who developed useful ways and means to give back to society and nation.
He further said pay packages were important but the quality of work was more crucial, which shaped one into a successful professional. Therefore, building a career should take precedence over competing in the rat race of making money.
More than 1,400 students from various streams, including Management, Computer Applications, Commerce, Hotel Management, Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Education, of the 2015 and 2016 batches were awarded degrees. More than 47 meritorious students, who won university merit positions, were honoured with gold medals, including 13 across all streams for attaining the first position at the university level.
“Since inception, our endeavour has been to prepare industry-ready professionals by inculcating the requisite skills of their fields,” said Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC, while delivering the convocation address. He said a highly seasoned faculty besides a well-formulated training process, aligned as per industry needs, made sure that students got exemplary placement opportunities in top MNCs. Among those present were Dr RS Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, and Dr BS Sohi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University.
