The Patiala police have registered a case under the IT Act against a man for creating a fake Instagram profile of a girl and sharing objectionable posts.
He was booked after the family members of the girl lodged a complaint with the police.
In their complaint, the family members alleged that their daughter studies in a local private school.
They said Ravinder pal Singh, a resident of Jatpura, Ward No. 6 in Fatehgarh Sahib, had made a fake Instagram profile in her name. They said the man had been posting objectionable posts from that account.
A case has been registered under sections 419 of the IPC, 66-D and 67 of the Information and Technology Act at the civil lines police station.
Rahul Kaushal, SHO, Civil lines, said the official of the cyber crime department had investigated the case and found that the accused had posted objectionable content through the fake profile. He said, “We have started the investigation and identified the man who is yet to be nabbed.”
