Omisha rallies into semis

CHANDIGARH:Omisha Nischal rallied from a set down to beat Khushi Sharma in the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals in the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club Complex, Sector 1, here, on Wednesday.

Omisha Nischal rallied from a set down to beat Khushi Sharma in the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals in the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club Complex, Sector 1, here, on Wednesday. 

Omisha lost the opening set 4-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-1 6-0 to seal a spot in the semifinals.

She, however, lost 3-6 1-6 to Harnoor Sidhu in the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals.

Pawandeep advances 

Pawandeep Kaur drubbed Vishita K Ranbir 6-0 6-0 to book a berth in the girls’ U-16 semifinals. Catherine Bhangu blanked Khushi Dewan, while Vaidehi Narsinghani beat Vanya Arora in an intense three-setter.

Vaidehi lost first set 2-6, but fought her way back into the match with a 7-6(5) win in the second set. She then sealed the decider 6-0 to stay in contention for a place in the final.

In the remaining girls’ U-14 quarterfinal matches, Jigyasa Narsinghani drubbed Vedaa Anand 6-0 6-3, while Anusha Verma downed Ananya Dogra 6-2 6-3.

Jagteswar moves ahead 

Jagteswar Thind, meanwhile, blanked Aryan Mahajan 6-0 6-0 to move into the boys’ U-16 semifinals. 

Gaurav Kumar dispatched Rijul Bhatia 7-6(2) 6-1, while Harmanjot Singh overcame Aditya Chauhan 7-6(3) 6-1. Avish Verma registered a 6-2 6-4 win over Rattan Kabir in the quarterfinals. 

In the boy’s U-14 quarterfinals, Rijul Bhatia packed off Pravar Sharma 6-1 6-1, while Yash Jindal beat Gurpuneet Singh 7-6(8) 6-4. Namish Sharma edged out Sidharth 6-1 6-1 and Yashvardhan Gaur dismissed Pratham Gopal Krishan 6-0 6-3 to move into the semifinals.
