Off-roaders enthral visitors at military carnival

Military horse riders and amateur 4×4 off-roaders continued to enthral residents on the concluding day of the Military Carnival, organised as a run-up to the Military Literature Festival, here today. 

The carnival attracted thousands of visitors, including students. The equitation tattoo attracted a large audience with Suhani Jamwal, the youngest and only female rider, receiving a standing ovation for her skills in show-jumping.

The daredevil acts of 4×4 jeep and bike off-roaders mesmerised the audience with their obstacle tackling skills in negotiating slush pits, humps and small manmade ditches at the specially-curated two-and-a-half acre course. 

The agility and precision of Army and NSG dogs while negotiating various hurdles, jumps and walls as directed by their holders, as well as the synchronisation between the master and the trained canine evoked huge appreciation from the crowd. Tracker, mine and explosive detection, guard, infantry patrol, and rescue dogs made up the dog contingent at the show.

The weapons displayed at the carnival included artillery and air defence guns, armoured and engineering vehicles automatic grenade launcher and small arms. The preparedness against any nuclear, chemical or biological attack was also show-cased through surveillance and detection equipment and personal protection gear and shelters.

Chief of Staff Western Command Lt Gen Gurpal Singh Sangha was the chief guest during the closing ceremony. Lt Gen TS Shergill (retd), senior adviser to Punjab Chief Minister, Maj Gen Raj Purohit from Army Service Corps, Gurpreet Deo, ADGP (Crime), Shashank Anand, SSP (Traffic), Chandigarh, and Nilambri Jagdale, (SSP Law and Order), Chandigarh, were present.
