NRI killed as Creta hits cab on Airport Road

An NRI, aged around 45, from the UK was killed in a road accident on Airport Road near Sector 68 here.

The victim has been identified as Sanjiv Kumar, who arrived here last month.

According to the police, Sanjiv was travelling in a cab, which was hit by a speeding Creta from the rear side. Sanjiv was coming from his cousin’s house and heading towards Phase 1, where he was staying. The police said the victim died on the spot, while the cab driver, Rupinder, escaped unhurt. The Creta driver, Somal Soni, also received minor injuries in the incident. Somal’s father is a police inspector, posted at Fatehgarh Sahib.

Sanjiv is survived by his wife, a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter, who are in the UK. According to one of his relatives, Sanjiv came here on February 18 and was supposed to go back on March 9. A case has been registered against Somal at the Phase 8 police station.
