City Mayor Davesh Moudgil launched the facility of issuance of the death certificate on the spot at the cremation ground in Sector 25 here today in the presence of KK Yadav, MC Commissioner, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Special Commissioner, Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, and other senior officers of the civic body.

The facility has been started at the cremation grounds in Sector 25 and Mani Majra by providing computers and printers along with the official record. The Mayor issued the first death certificate of the late Manphali to her son on the spot.

The Mayor said the MC had started this facility, which would not only be of great help to NRIs, but also to those residing in other states. He said the certificate would be issued the next day of the cremation at the cremation ground after proper verification from the head office.

He said the certificate would be issued only in case of death at home, private hospital or in an accident in Chandigarh. If the death takes place at six government hospitals in Chandigarh — the PGI, the GMCH, Sector 32, the GMSH, Sector 16, or the civil hospitals in Sector 22, 45 and Mani Majra, the certificate will be issued at these hospitals only.

The Mayor also inspected the toilet block area where renovation work and new construction work is going on. He instructed the Superintending Engineer (Public Health) to complete the project within the stipulated time. He also took a round of the cremation ground and inspected the facilities being provided there. He instructed the Superintending Engineer (B&R) to provide a kiosk near the entry gate of the cremation ground for the issuance of the death certificate.
