The front portion of a house caved in at Sector 66 here on Sunday.
The front courtyard of house number 2874 in Sector 66 here caved in on Sunday morning following a heavy spell of rain in the area. As occupants and those living in the neighbourhood are in a shock following the incident, Rajni Goyal, councillor of the area, claimed that earth caved in due to a damaged storm water pipeline.
“The condition of underground sewerage and storm water pipelines is very poor. Pipelines are damaged at several places from which water leaks. As a result, the soil beneath the surface gets washed away. There is a need to overhaul all underground pipelines. Otherwise, a major tragedy can take place someday,” she said.
A similar incident was reported at Phase 5 here a few days ago.
