The local police on Wednesday arrested a notorious criminal, Rajwinder alias Raju, who had run away from the custody of the Chandigarh police in August and recovered a country-made pistol from his possession

The police said Raju was wanted in several criminal cases in Punjab and Chandigarh. A case has been registered against him by CIA Patiala under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Sanaur police station.

The police said Raju was a resident of Shivalik Vihar in Naya Gaon, Mohali. They said 10 cases of theft, some under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and other cases of murder had been registered against him in Mohali, Kharar, Lalru and Chandigarh. 

An official said, “Rajwinder had run away from the Chandigarh police custody on August 27. We have arrested him and further investigating the matter.

Senior Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, “Raju is convicted in one case and wanted in a number of cases in Punjab and Chandigarh. He has been nabbed and officials will carry out an investigation duly.”
