Encroachments outside shops  in corridors  of markets will be considered   illegal  under the Street Vendors Act as the town vending committee  approved the  bylaws today. After the implementation of the bylaws, shopkeepers who encroach upon corridors will have to pay a penalty of up to Rs 10,000 instead of the earlier Rs 500.

The  committee  discussed the  objections  received on the  draft  bylaws   and approved  these with  certain  changes.

Vendors will not be allowed within 50 metres of any crossing of two or more roads and roundabouts. The    V1, V2 and V3 roads have also been declared no-vending zones. The bylaws have also laid down the responsibilities of street vendors. The  time   for the  vendors has been fixed from 6  am to 10  pm. Street vendors will not be allowed  to obstruct the movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

The vendors cannot sell illegal goods and occupy more space then that allocated by the panel. The vendors will have to pay a fixed amount  per month as vending fee for non-essential and essential   services.

Sources said Sector 17 would remain a no-vending zone, while the number of vendors in Sector 19 and 20 would be restricted.
