Nobel laureate Prof Bernard Lucas Feringa, who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2016, delivered a public series lecture on ‘Photo-responsive Biomolecular Systems’ at the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) here on Thursday.

Prof Feringa, who is affiliated to Netherlands-based University of Groningen, highlighted his contribution in the discovery of nano-motors, in addition to photo-pharmacology for site-specific treatment in various communicable and non-communicable diseases.

His talk provided a futuristic vision about how nano science could be useful not only in delivering drugs in affected cells or tissues in human body but also in rewiring of the human brain.

“There is a need to nurture fundamental science by academic institutions such as IMTECH because a strong basic science will lead to innovative products,” he remarked.
