Chandigarh, November 10

“Consequences of not addressing adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults,” Dr Shoba Srinath, senior consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry from Bangalore, said at the 15th Biennial National Conference of Indian Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (IACAM).

The three-day conference concluded here at the GMCH-32 today. The theme of the conference was ‘Child & Adolescent Mental Health: From intervention to prevention’. She talked about evidence-based preventive interventions terming them as ‘kernels’. These kernels included simple tips to promote health and productivity like reduced TV time for children and teenagers, giving children meaningful roles at home.

The conference was attended by around 250 delegates from across the country and included 29 workshops covering almost every aspect of child and adolescent mental health. — TNS
