Excise Dept suspends licence of city distillery

CHANDIGARH: Rakesh Kumar Popli, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Chandigarh, has suspended the licence of a Chandigarh-based liquor distillery with immediate effect after the Haryana Excise Department seized 200 illegal liquor boxes of the company during a raid in Bhiwani.

Rakesh Kumar Popli, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Chandigarh, has suspended the licence of a Chandigarh-based liquor distillery with immediate effect after the Haryana Excise Department seized 200 illegal liquor boxes of the company during a raid in Bhiwani.

Anurag Agarwal, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, said the Excise and Taxation Department, Bhiwani, had received a complaint against NV Distilleries and Breweries Private Limited that its liquor was found during a raid, but the company representatives failed to produce valid documents for the same.

The Chief Electoral Officer said the Excise Department had also issued a show-cause notice to company representatives in which the firm was asked to file a reply, but it failed to produce valid documents.

The company’s license has been suspended till further orders. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Excise Department has intensified vigil on the border to check the smuggling of the liquor out of the city.
