Panjab varsity organises walk at Sukhna to promote Hindi

CHANDIGARH: The Department of Hindi, Panjab University (PU), organised a ‘Hindi Walk’ at Sukhna Lake to celebrate ‘Hindi Diwas’.

The Department of Hindi, Panjab University (PU), organised a ‘Hindi Walk’ at Sukhna Lake to celebrate ‘Hindi Diwas’.

More than 150 students and research scholars, faculty members from different departments and Hindi lovers from cross section of society participated in the walk.

Anuj and Rohit Kumar, differently abled students from the Department of Hindi, flagged off the walk. Students from the Hindi Department carried vibrant placards carrying messages for the love of all languages.

Dr Gurmeet Singh, chairperson, Department of Hindi, said last year, the department organised a Hindi Rally on the campus. This year, with a view to involve residents from across the city, it was decided to conduct a walk at Sukhna Lake, he added.

After the walk, students, including Rahul Sandher, Indu and Anju, took part in a short play. Research scholars Usha and Mayank organised various exciting games like riddles and tongue twisters in Hindi to spread love for the language.

Signing in Hindi was also encouraged. A board was installed to gather signatures in Hindi. Many residents from different walks of life appreciated the efforts of the Hindi Department.

The event was attended by Senators Praveen Goyal and Jagdish Mehta, Controller of Examinations, PU, Prof Parvinder Singh, journalist Deepak Dhiman, Dr Pankaj Shrivastav from the Department of Philosophy, Dr Rajesh Jaiswal from USOL, Dr Vinod Chaudhary from the Department of Sociology, Dr Bhavneet Bhatti from the Department of Mass Communication, PU Press Manager Jatinder Moudgil, Sukhdev Sharma from general branch, engineer Sandeep Grover and Anil Thakur from the Department of Horticulture.

Faculty members from the Hindi Department, including Prof Neerja Sood, Prof Satypal Sehgal, Prof Baijnath Prasad and Dr Ashok Kumar, also attended the event.
