Birmingham Univ to support Punjab Sports Department

CHANDIGARH:The University of Birmingham (UK) will support the Punjab Government in harnessing the sporting talent in the state by developing infrastructure at the Maharaja Bhupindra Singh Sports University, Patiala.

The University of Birmingham (UK) will support the Punjab Government in harnessing the sporting talent in the state by developing infrastructure at the Maharaja Bhupindra Singh Sports University, Patiala. 

The university will also render assistance in strengthening and streamlining the academic programme of the newly-formed institution, Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi said after a meeting with British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre and senior lecturer in sports coaching, University of Birmingham, Martin Toms at the Punjab Bhawan here today.

"The University of Birmingham will cover a whole gamut of areas, including psychology, physiology, nutrition, coaching, etc," said Sodhi. 

They will also be involved in talent identification, talent development, talent support, management of players' health, development of academic programmes and training in sports science, he added. — TNS
