Third suspect arrested in kidnapping, carjacking case

In a case of carjacking and kidnapping of a Balongi resident, the police arrested the third suspect, identified as Ajay, a resident of Phase 5 here.

According to inspector Manphul Singh, Station House Officer of the Balongi police station, Ajay (23) was arrested from the Balongi area.

“Ajay, who is an unemployed youth, entered into crime for money. Before this carjacking incident, he was also involved in two incidents of mugging,” said Inspector Manphul Singh.

Notably, four youths, including Ajay, Shubham, Surjeet and Sandeep, kidnapped Balongi resident Sarvinder Singh, along with his Alto car, on the night of August 14 near TDI City here. The victim was later dumped near the Balongi bridge.

The SHO said the accused wanted to dismantle the vehicle and sell off its parts. The police recovered the vehicle from Mohali. They had already nabbed Shubham and Surjeet in this connection. Sandeep is still at large.

A case under Sections 323 and 379 of the IPC has been registered at the Balongi police station.
