The Mohali administration has decided to provide security to three people who have been raising their voice against illegal mining in their respective areas.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan has asked SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal to provide security cover to Bhag Singh of Abhipur village, Sher Mohammad Khan of Khizrabad and Sardara Singh from Handesra (Dera Bassi).

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner met the trio at his office and appreciated their efforts to protect their areas from ecological disaster.

Dayalan said the trio has shown the courage to challenge illegal mining mafia on their own in their respective areas. The Deputy Commissioner assured that nothing would happen to them and the SHO concerned would be responsible for their security.

Dayalan also instructed the Mohali, SP (Traffic), Kesar Singh, and Sukhwinder Kumar, secretary, RTA, to personally check and ensure that overloaded tippers do not ply on link roads in the district.

He also instructed the authorities concerned to ensure that tractor-trolleys were not used for commercial purpose. He categorically asked to keep a tab on those vehicles, which were plying through Haryana and not paying tax in the district.

Bhag Singh said he started the fight against illegal extraction of sand around nine years ago, and would continue to do so.

Khan has also been up in arms against illegal mining menace for the past several years. Sardara Singh, who retired from the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said he had stopped illegal mining on numerous occasions and as a result, saved prime land in the area.
